    You seem to already know nearly everything there is to know about your rifle. The No.4 Mark 1* was approved in June, 1941 but was never produced outside of North America. Savage and Long Branch in Canada manufactured over 2 million of these rifles during the war so they are not exactly a rare item. All Savage production has a "C" prefix in the serial number to inticate Chicoppe Falls while Canadain rifles have an "L" for Long Branch. The only real differences between these Mark 1* and the standard Mark 1 rifles was the elimination of the bolt head catch, a cut out on the bolt head track was used for removal instead. I am sure someone here has a link to some fantastic on line site where a complete serial number chart has been posted along with plenty of other useful data.
