Is it possible to ruin a new barrel?

    IF the barrel was shipped full of grease / oil / cosmolene, or IF somehow it got metal chips / sand / etc. in it before you first fired it, than yes it's possiable to trash the barrel on the first shot.

    Personaly I do at least a field strip and clean/lube before taking a new gun out, mil-surp's get a full detail strip and clean.

    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    yeah thats what we thought, one of our other buddies got a new Tikka T3 and went out and shot it.....couldnt group a thing....maybe he ruined the barrel, maybe not.....told him to clean it REAL good and try again....

    Possible, yes, but very unlikely. Have your friend check the action screws to be sure that they're tight, and also the scope mount and ring screws if the rifle has a scope.
