there are true experts here, and I am not one. However, I feel confident in saying that .243 is a short action round. short standard and magnum length actions are determined by the length of the cartrige and do not have anything to do with the make and model of the rifle.... just the length of the cartrige.
    .243, .223 .308 etc. = short action
    .270, 30-06, .284 = standard length action
. 7mm mag. .300 Win. Mag. etc = magnum length action

where do the weatherby magnums fit in??

The 243 is a short action cartridge but the Savage 110 is a long action. The Savage 10 is the short action version.

    110 long action=10 short action

    111 long action=11 short action

    116 long action=16 short action

Now I am really confused. Numrich offers the savage 110 stock in either long action or short action.[:p]Guess I'll just close my eyes and pick one, send it back if wrong?

i see alot of wrong answers. the 270 is a long action, the 243 is a standard short action and the 223 is a short action. it is best to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth an remove all doubt

260, Savage only makes one length short action and the 223 and 243 both fit in it. Guess you should take your own words to heart.

Depends on how old your gun is. For a good many years Savage built all of them on the long action regardless of caliber. In recent years they started making the short action again for the shorter calibers.[:)]
