Federal Ordinance - Winchester Tanker 308 Win.
What can you tell me about this gun? Does it take stripper clips? Capacity? Accuracy? I am thinking about buying one. I would like a .308 auto to go with my other .308s Thanks

I think you're talking about a Garand Tanker. If you are, here's my 2 cents worth.
The muzzle blast, flash, isn't good. I don't know about the accuracy. It takes the 8 round enbloc clip. You'd do better getting a standard M1 Garand in the original caliber, .30-06.

I can't recommend any "tanker". They are made by cutting parts on a standard M1 & welding them together again. They are difficult to make properly, & many do not function well. The muzzle blast from the shortened barrel is quite unpleasant, too.
Fed Ord was into a lot of gun-related projects. They were an importer, they manufactured some receivers, & they assembled complete guns. Nothing was very high quality. I have never seen a Fed Ord tanker, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Are you sure that it was made by Fed Ord? They imported & sold a bunch of USGI M1 & M1 carbine receivers; the receivers were stamped "FEDERAL ORDNANCE/EL MONTE CA". Could this tanker have one of their receivers assembled by someone else?
It will take 8 round enbloc clips. Never buy a .308 M1 unless it has a .308 barrel; the .30-06 barrels with a chamber insert do not work well (the insert doesn't stay in.)

Fed Ord "Tanker" is most probably a rewelded Garand receiver. Some work, some don't. You should check out the lay-a-way plan at reesesurplus.com if you are interested in this sort of rifle. Except note, the Reese items are marked both Springfield Armory, Inc, and Beretta, and are built around forged receivers.
