colt32 police positive

just received a present from my parents, a old colt police positive 32 revolver,6 shot that my grandfather owned,the barrell is about 3 inches. the barrell reads police positive 32 ctg, or cto. the frame is stamped with h next to the barrel. if any one can give me information on this pistol i would gladly thank you, thanks bryan

    The Police Positive was in production from 1907 to 1943. You can post the serial number or email it to me and I will look up the date of manufacture for you. The gun is probably safe to fire. <hsgarner@tds.net>

    I just wish I could find a 6" barrel for my .32.
    It's in 85-90% condition,except for the big chunk
    missing from the very rear,just in front of the cyl.[:(]

    i believe you can safly use both the .32 SHORT COLT and the .32 LONG COLT in this firearm. i do not believe that the .32 POLICE POSITIVE, or NEW COLT POLICE are still made. you may pick up a vintage box at a gun show, or here at auction on GUNBROKER. i have a box at home, as a display piece.

    I to have one of these but in 32-20 and mine started with a 6" barrel but mother shot at a snake in 1960 and split the barrel I have been looking for a 6" sence no luck. BiggerHammer[:(]

    BH24, you cannot have a Police Positive in .32-20. The cylinder on a PP is too short to hold the .32-20 cartridge. You probably have a Police Positive Special, which was available in .32-20.

    In regard to the barrel problem, it does not make sense that no barrel could be found if you have looked since 1960! In over 40 years, it seems likely that a barrel would have turned up. While the .32-20 chambering is not the most common in the PPS, it certainly is not rare. Where did you look? Gun Parts has a lot of parts for these most common Colt revolvers and may have a barrel for your gun. I suggest checking there, and parts dealers at gun shows. You should also try posting on the "Wanted" forum. I have found some scarce parts there. Good luck.

    the correct cartidge for this is either .32 S&W short or long, colt couldn't (or didn't want to) stamp S&W on their revolvers so they came up with the 'new police' name. same with the .38 N.P.=.38 S&W
