Bring color back to plastic
I have a pistol that has plastic ( i think) grips. What could I do to clean the yellow out of them or do I really want to?

replace the grips. serious. it wont come out. its oxidation...the plastic is decaying. besides, sometimes the yellow is a good selling point. it makes the gun dated and original. 0 -
How old is the pistol the grips might be ivory 0 -
very good point. is it ivory? what kind of gun is it? many s.a. guns had ivory. even some 45's. let us know. 0 -
If they are plastic sometimes you can clean them up with DuPont auto polishing compound. It depends how they were made. Try it on a spot that doesn't show.Bobski is right about the oxidation. The next thing that happens is cracks and chips. 0 -
Some kinds of plastic can be cleaned and polished, such as bakelite, and Blue Magic is great for that purpose. Here is a source for Blue Magic and Magnolia polish: http://www.radiolaguy.com/supplies.html

Remove the grip, try wiping with Asatone. If this works, assure you run under the water and wipe dry before re-installing.
Yellowing does not "always" mean the plastic is losing integratey. Most plastics will outlast the metal except for prolonged UV usage.
Best of luck.0
