I just bought a used .40 cal Keltec, like new. I understand that caliber has been discontinued. Does anybody know why? I have Keltec 9mm and .380 and like them a lot. Any info about the .40 will be much appreciated.

I believe it was because they could not get it to feed reliably. I have worked on a few and never could get them to feed properly. A friend sent his back to KelTec and they gave him the opportunity to trade it for a 9mm, he did. I have a 9 and it is 100% so far.

This is the KelTec owners group forum specifically dedicated to the "P 40" 40 S & W cal. KelTec.

There is lots of good info on it, regarding the question you asked.

I have 2 of these. One is a conversion kit and the other is a factory gun. You should read the information at the owner's group web sight on the magazines. They went thru 3 variations. The first ones used the 9mm magazine and do not feed well. I polished the feed ramp on my conversion and it works well with most ammo. I carry one of these in a pocket holster all of the time. Stay away from the 180 gr bullets as these seem to creat extra wear. I carry 155 gr Federal Hydrashocks in mine. I shoot a lot of 155 gr rn lead reloads in mine.

The biggest problem with this gun is because of the large caliber in such a light gun.It causes what is known as limp wristing (not keeping the wrist locked while firing)this causes a jam while cycling the slide. My 2 cents, Some people even have trouble with the little P-32 jamming because of LIMP WRISTING.

My son has one and has sent it back twice for repair. He still likes it, however he says it is a large caliber built on a small caliber frame. Also being as light as it is it is rather hard recoil.

Personally, I don't like the long trigger pull and the 25# trigger.

I did shoot his .45 glock yesterday and I'm not going to admit that I liked it. I hope he didn't get a picture.[:0]

The trigger should be about 8 pounds tops,It's just long.Shoot a Kel-Tec a lot and you will do better with your other guns. That's a fact.

As old and poorly as I am, maybe it just felt like 25#s.[;)]
