rotating reticle
old tasco scope variable 3-9 (late 1980's)
very old weaver rings (early 60's)
mounted on pre-64 mod. 70 .270
everything fine.. shoots fine for years without adjustment then in the middle of season it turns over and now the reticle is almost an X instead of a +.... tube is still clamped down tight and I don't think it got bumped... tube looks to be (but i'm not sure)oriented the same as before but reticle is turned over on it's side making an X.
I only noticed it a split second before I shot and killed one (double lung shot) so it seems not to have gone very far off in terms of accuracy..however it bothers me and it won't adjust right should the time come because the reticle is on angle..it's my only deer rifle, so I plan to shoot it as is until season's over, but then??? please advise

I would replace it then. You can probably have it repaired, but that may cost more than the scope is worth. Here are some places that can do the work for you if you decide to repair it:
George Kohl/Precision Optics - sirius146@hotmail.com
Parsons Scope Service - 513-867-0820
Sullivan's Classic Arms - wbs2112@aol.com
Dan - goldcup@bestweb.net

ditto He Dog's suggestions.
Your reticle has broken loose. Send it back and have it fixed (depending on cost) or 86' it and buy another peice of glass.
Tasco is being reapierd by bushnell now,..but I am not sure they will repair one they didn't produce.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

thanks for the input guys...I'll put a couple shots on paper to make sure it will finish the season for me and then I'll look for a new one. I'll see what it will cost to fix the tasco too. once season is over i don't shoot much. after years shooting the same rifle i don't have to practice to be deadly at hunting ranges so I don't waste the ammo or barrel life. i'll have plenty of time to get it fixed before next season. thanks again for the input. 0 -
