Springfield WWII MilSpec 45 Pistol

What is the difference between these WWII mil specs and Springfields regular MilSpec 45? Has anyone bought one of these, they look interesting and the price seems to be pretty good!

I was going to buy the green box, WW seial number Springfield WWII mil-spec as a Christmas present for my father, but after reading some mixed reviews, I have decided to upgrade to the SW1911 which has stellar reviews. Big jump in price....but a huge jump in quality. 0 -
Diablo, what kind of reviews did it get? What was negative about the pistol?

BTW I handled on yesterday.....ewh. I did not like the operation of the slide, the trigger, or the sights. I could not stand the gun quite frankly.
I ended up getting my father a Kimber a series I classic custom target.
I checked out a Dan Wesson Patriot adj sights, SW 1911, and a Springfield Armory 1911A1 SS with adj sights. Out of the Kimber, Springfield, Smith and Wesson, and Dan Wesson...the Dan Wesson had the best trigger. It was a very difficult choice between the Kimber, SA and the DW.

It just gives you some idea of what our troops were using in 1945. I have handled one and for the $375 they seem about as good as one could expect. If you think you are comparing apples to apples when comparing a sw1911 or a kimber to a springfield you need to get you head examined. a $400 gun versus a $700 one, now really. They would be an excellent choice to customize because of the low price. I think the springfiel plus about $100 in work you would have a pistol every bit of the SW or kimber.

I highly doubt a SA WWII 1911 milspec with $100 worth of mods will even come close to the SWs and Kimbers....wake up.
If you want a good gun to build, find a Norinco and build off of that.
I would rather have one good gun than 2 or 3 junkers.

I looked at stainless target Springfield 1911A1, the SW1911, a Dan Wesson Patriot, that Kimber, and the SA WWII milspec, The DW had the best trigger pull. The SA had the second best trigger pull ad the best slide operation. The SA milspec was god aweful. Horrible sights, horrible trigger pull, horrible slide operation. I ended up narrowing my decision to the SA stainless 1911a1 with target sights and the Kimber. I ended up going with the Kimber.
I would rather spend 675 on that Series I Custom Target than 400 on that POS WWII milspec.0 -
give me an essex frame and a hand full of milspec parts, and a match bbl and bushing, and i'll have a gun built cheaper than all of those, and it will hit 2" groups at 50yds faithfully for years to come. ANY GUN can be a charm if it was built by a sharp smith. seems the big bucks these days is in finish....or pazazz effect upon first viewing. some gun builders feel that a gun will sell if it looks cool. i tend to look deeper and ask typical smith questions. if all i get is, 'this gun is awesome'...i put it down and walk out the shop. seems the ratty old guns are always the better ones and a trained eye will pick it out of a line up every time. im one of them. i only posted this answer because our poster said the magic word that put me into action.......he 'saw' a gun that 'looks' interesting. all my best shooters,(guns) were introduced to me like women over a formal dinner. seems the uglier they were, the better housewives theyd make. guns too. get an ugly one and it will serve you forever!

Thats my carry gun. Built it all from misc parts on hand, brazilian slide, JPE stainless frame. At 15yds I can cover all my shots with a quarter. Total cost? $215. She's been through hell and still smooth as silk. Not everyone can build their own, so by the best you can. Never look for the "cheapest" unless its a wallhanger. If you can't afford a Kimber or DW or whatever, then save and wait. Make your purchases count and in the long run you'll be a lot happier with what youve got. Of course I tell this to people all the time and still they buy Lorcins. Strange world.

I made a long check of everything I could find on the market in a .45, US made, and after six months, took a Colt 01991 Stainless (here on GB, $610 delivered), over the SA Mil-Spec ($440/$540 delivered; Parkerized/Stainless).
I've never shot a Colt before this, but a firearms instructor said he never felt a better trigger out of a Colt than on my 1991 Gov't.
