    Glen, Iver Johnson did make the Champion model in 44, 45, 12mm and 14mm rifle calibers. If your father in law's Champion is a rifle in .44 cal. you can at least double the Captain's value on it.

    I guess it's a 410 shotgun, but it says 44 Cal on the barrel. That's what he's confused about.

    the champion single barrel marked 410-44 is chambered for the 410 2 1/2 inch shell or 44 and 44 extra long shot shells. these are not rifle cartridges they are shot shells. the same is true of the 45, 12mm & 14mm marked single barrel champions. do not attempt to fire rifle cartridges in these early single barrel shotguns the pressures generated by rifle cartridges would be to high.

    the champion single barrel shotguns marked 410-44 were manufactured from about world war 1 intil the 1930's.
