Remington 1100
I recently took my Remington 1100 down for a thourgh cleaning. Which I have done many times in the past. After I put it back together it will not fire. I have taken it down and put it back together again and again to no avail. I tried replacing my trigger housing with another gun. The results the other gun still fires and mine does not. I've checked the firing pin. It is unbroken and looks damaged free. When you go to shoot it. It does not even leave a mark on the cap. So the firing pin is not making contact. I've tried to stick my knife next to the firing pin. That was a stupid move, broke my knife point. So the hammer is striking the firing pin. Or real close to it as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

Is there a website that CLEARLY explains (preferably with good pictures), how the gas ring(s) are installed on a 1981 vintage 1100 12 ga 2 3/4" and a 2005 vintage 1100 youth 20 ga 2 3/4". The pictures in the factory literature don't really explain it well enough for mr to understand. I am not a shotgunner. thanks 0 -
yes you can get another barrel for it. however, it might not just drop in. i had an 1187 come in to the shop that was hanging up with a new barrel on it. i had to fit the thing to the receiver. replacing the tube is another matter, as it is silver soldered in place. david 0 -
I will just be replacing the tube extension which is just attached to the nut. I will also need a shorter spring. Thanks. Bshooter 0 -
you have an old 1100, right? why do you need to replace the tube extension and spring? what bbl is on it now? if its a competition, its most likely a skeet or trap gun already. im confused, help me out.

I'm so confused i don't know what to ask 1st.Even though i'm confused most of the time. By competition do you mean police/combat with a 8rd magazine extension? Or do you have a weight attached to the barrel nut? What gauge and chamber length, is it pre '77? Serial# will tell the DOM. More info please. 0 -
This is the new Remington 1100 Competition Master 12 ga, 2 3/4 inch chamber shotgun made especially for 3 gun competition. If you go to the Remington web sight they have a short video with this gun in action. It has an eight round mag extension, a larger charge handle and the composite stock is grey. I tested it out today and found out I need a little more powerful shells. Bshooter 0 -
Is this the one you got?
I can understand wanting to be able to change the barrel, but why do you say you have to change the tube?
This is from the Remington site.
quote:Which barrels are interchangeable on the Models 870, 1100, and 11-87?
Model 1100--All barrels are interchangeable within gauge with the exception 20 gauge guns built prior to 1977.
As far as needing more powerfull shells, some firearms need to be broke in, to loosen up a little. A good cleaning and oiling, then some rounds ran through it, may fix your problem there.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Nice shotgun. [:p]

You got it pickenup. That's the gun I got. The reason I might want to change the extension tube is to use it for hunting or trap shooting. I guess I wouldn't have to. Thanks for putting the picture on. Bshooter 0 -
Bshooter...To answer your original question; yes you can change to a longer barrel for trap. You dont "have" to change the mag. tube to shoot trap. The forward weight may even help with follow through. How long is the barrel you have? I had a LEO buddy that used a special field 21" ported barrel in a combat shotgun course. I used it for trap once with a mod. ck tube and did good after i figured out the difference in swing with the shorter barrel. It added a little more challenge. 0 -
as far as hunting goes just get yourself a really long duck plug [:)] 0 -
big difference between 'competition' and competition master'!! personally, i'd sell back the gun to a dealer in exchange for a skeet or trap gun and save the headaches.
