scope adjustment problem
I have a Springfield 1st gen scope on my DPMS 308, while sighting it in the other day i ran out of left windage adjustment. The scope is mounted with Tasco weaver-style rings. Could the rings be that far out of wack? Or, could there be a problem with the scope? I've heard Springfield had problems with this model. Any help much apprecatied.

OK, so I've never had this happen before. The rifle is a Marlin X7VH in 223. The scope is a Bushnell Legend Ultra in 4.5-14.The rifle is a proven sub-moa rife with a different scope. The scope is a proven sub-moa scope on a different rifle. The reason I swapped out scopes is because this long Bushnell scope just didn't look right on my Ruger Hawkeye in 257 Roberts. So, I mounted this scope on this rifle yesterday. Went out this morning to sight in, and at 40 yards, using hornady factory loaded, 55 grain ammo, I completely ran out of elevation adjustment. With elevation maxxed out, POI was still about 6" low. The reason I was shooting 40 yards is because I wanted to make sure I was on paper before I moved out farther. Not quite sure how to proceded because I've never had this problem before. I would assume I need to shim the scope. The question is where do I shim, in the front or the back, under the base, or the bottom half of the ring? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You 0 -
You can try a set of MILLET rings, they are windage adjustable anf give you alot more adjustment when you run out of clicks on your scope. Be careful not to over adjust your scope past the point where you run out of clicks, you can seriously damage the mechanism.

Sometimes simply taking the scope off and remounting it will allow it to resituate and will sometimes work. If that doesn't work, try adjustable scope mounts, if that doesn't do it, then I'd send it back... 0 -

Badger ordnance and IOR tactical rings are second to NONE. Yes they are wprth the money,..but only for a highly accurate rifle.
Your problem won't be fixed with a good set of rings. If you have run out of windage you have one of two problems,...a scope issue,..or the reciever holes are drilled of center causing the mount to be pointing in a different direction. The scope can be fixed under warranty,..the receiver can possibly be retapped for larger mount screw (8-40) by a COMPETENT gunsmith the equipment to square them before he retapps.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Springfield scopes aren't known for extreme quality, and consistency.
Weaver design is a sound, and strong one, using a marginal brand as is, there are many reasons why they won't work well.
Weaver base the offical one with parallel rails, center cut out, and extruded are also not very consistent.
Your DPMS should have a Picatinny rail. If there was any damage to the rail points, or the flat top, that will, not can-will affect the ring mount. It snowballs from there.
A heavier, longer, and higher mounted scope requires better mounting components....if you don't want problems somewhere, sometime.
No intent to offend when informing, but have seen to many problems with Millet adjustables. Just had one handed to m at the last show with another broken jaw (side clamp). There are a few inherent accuracy, and strength problems with the adjustable model.
