Nikon scopes.
7mm mag. is in need of a scope. I was looking into the Nikon Monarch series scopes.Any thoughts on this or other brands ?

I have one Monarch on a .270 Steyer. Optics are good, eye relief is adequate and it appears after 5 years of hunting to be durable. I would rate it third behind Burris Signature and Leupold Vari-X III. I prefer it to Pentax, Weaver Grand Slam and others in the price range. If it were me and hunting was not looming quickly, I would save a little longer and go to the Burris or Leupold, but my eyes are old and I need all the brightness and eye relief I can get. In my experience Nikon Service is awful. Enough for me to avoid all Nikon products 0 -
I have had 2 Monarchs and they have been great. The service used to be bad but has improved. It is a better buy than the leupold becuase it is comparable to the varix 3 at the varix 2 price. That said I would avoid putting it on a high recoil gun. The best for the money is the Zeiss Conquest. They use the same lens as the german Zeiss but they are assembled in the USA. A new 3x9x40 can be had for under $350.

I've got a Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 -
Seems to be a pretty good scope - nice clear optics and positive ajdustments. Never had any problems with it, so can't say what their warranty work is like. It is on a 6.5x55mm.
Only scopes I've ever had problems with the warranty was Redfield and Bushnell. Leupold, Burris and Simmons have been great with any complaints.

I had a Nicon Monark on a 300 win mag that went bad, Co. would NOT honer the warenty. 0
