S&W .357 stamped NYSP - worth anything?

We need to know what model this pistol is, what condition is in, and whether or not it is original (items like factory stocks). There are folks who like to collect PD marked firearms but just having a department stamp on a run of the mill handgun does not make it worth any more than an identical unmarked example if the unmarked gun is in better condition.

I'm just guessing here, but it sounds like you have a S&W M681 stainless steel 6-shot .357 mag revolver with 4" barrel, fixed sights, & Pachmayr Presentation black rubber replacement grips. If you open the cylinder, you should see the model # on the frame yoke.

Yes, these were traded in by the New York State Police, but they have no extra value due to the NYSP markings. The troopers used them pretty hard, so, even though they don't have a lot of finish wear, lock-up will not be tight & accuracy will only be mediocre at best.

I would expect it to sell in the $200-250 range, possibly a little more in restrictive states.

It probably is a 681 Smith. I own one that was a trade in. Dept. went to autos. Mine is tight and has had trigger work done on it and has standard wood grips. Most will bring $$ according to condition. Condition pends what one will pay.

You realize no offers to buy or sell firearms mentioned in seven year old threads are allowed, right?
