Sharps (Repo.) barrel removal...

Can anyone recommend a good receiver wrench too remove burst barrel from a sharps .45/70 receiver[?]

    Since the barrel is already ruined, remove everything from the receiver, breech block, extractor, lever pin, ect. Place the receiver in a large well padded vice and grip the barrel with a 24 inch pipe wrench and the barrel will come out. The barrel threads are 10 square right hand threads to the inch.
    I would think that there is quite a story behind how the barrel got this way. Care to share?

    Some idiot, NOT ME, reloaded a .45/70 round with 70grs. of SMOKELESS PISTOL POWDER. Don't know if they were injured, that's all who i bought from would say!![8)][8)][8)]

    I was going to ask the same question, man that had to hurt! Whats the block and action look like? I would think things may have got a little tweaked by the looks of that barrel.I would do what I.S. says with the pipe wrench, some of those Sharps barrels come out real hard.I had to soak the one on my vintage Sharps in transformer oil for 2 days to get it to break loose. A smith friend of mine had a homemade strap wrench contraption that we had to use a 3'pipe cheater on. Let us know the results.

    CHARLIE15...."BEFORE" you pull the barrel see if the breechblock will close with a .001 brass feeler gauge between it and the barrel. If it does, keep going up by .001 until it won't. This will tell you if it got stretched any.If it did, another factory barrel probly won't work without cutting more threads to set the barrel back. It's a real PITA to index the barrel so the dovetails and extractor cut line up. I wonder if this put a damper on his reloading career?
