nickel finish
What is recommended to clean a satin nickel finish? My pistol has a dull, stained look.

have to mention this as stupid as it sounds. i had a nickel plated gun years ago. the packing grease actually stained it? the only thing i ever found to remove the stain was automotive carburater cleaner. and I spent plenty in the gun shops on products that were supposed to work. Of course remove any plastic parts, wear a cool pair of glasses, and take it outside and spray the crap out of it. if the gun has painted sites stay away from them as well. hate to send anyone to Wal Mart but they have carb. cleaner for less than 2 bucks a can. a simple aresol can of carg cleaner works real well. just keep it away from any and all plastics, and paint. it will NOT harm the finish! I even used it on blue guns to remove carbon from the tight spots conventional gun cleaner wouldn't budge. COLD BLUE may be a different story? 0 -
A local LEO, shoots a lot, uses the brake fluid. I use it too, with the tube to direct little blasts. Then I wipe with the Hoppes.
A gunsmith recommended wet sandpaper, as a body shop might use, to get a scratch out of stainless. On nickel? I'd try the cleaning, then 0000 copper wool (again, the gunsmith will sell you one pad for a buck...it'll last you for a while, and is gentler than steel wool, even 0000).0
