High Standard 9-shot Revolver

Just out of curiosity, How much is my Dad's old gun worth. He got it used in 1956. It was the gun he taught me with, shooting porcupines in Michigan. He was a VERY Good Teacher, with a lot of patience.
High Standard, 22 cal. 9-shot revolver, Blue Steel, Simulated Ivory grips, pull the pin to remove the barrel. Not for sale,just curious. Thanks

    We need a little more info. Do you pull the pin to remove the barrel or the cylinder? Is the frame steel or aluminum? It should be marked which model it is.

    A High Standard revolver bought used in 1956 will be an early Sentinel. All early Sentinels have alloy frames and trigger guard/butt frames, NOT steel. The steel barrel is secured by a pin, but it was not intended to be removed on a regular basis. However, dropping the revolver just right, or, more likely, getting it stepped on just right, can cause the barrel to be loosened in its boss and then the pin will probably be easy to remove, thus allowing the barrel to also be easily removed. The cylinder is removed by pushing in on the retention plunger. Is that what you meant instead of the barrel?

    Is it a Model R-100 or Model R-101? What is its barrel length? (It will probably be 3-inch or 5-inch if it is that early.) I never considered the white plastic grip to be "simulated ivory!" Brown plastic was the standard grip color for the blue Sentinels. The white, as used on nickel guns, was a common replacement for blue guns. I did that to the blue one I bought new in 1955.

    My First Gun ! I bought one in 1973, used in very good shape, with the nickle finish and white grips. for $75.00
    I wore it out (the cylinder pin wears down the alloy frame until it will eat a long hole in the frame and the cylnder will not stay centered). (about 20-30,000 rounds worth I estimate)
    I purchased a second one in 1985 for $125.00 in like new condition
    which I eventually gave my son. The last time I saw one in a gun store (1995) it was as you described yours, but in fair to good condition, for $145.00.
    It was a good shooter and a lot of fun.
