Colt 1851 navy revolver
Does anyone remember the old cap and ball pistol kits? Not the single shots like the ones from CVA, but the revolver kits. I remember they used to make a do-it-yourself kit to build a 1851 or 1860 revolver from the unassembled and unfinished parts kit. Does anyone still make these? I want an 1851 replica but want to build it myself. I could just break down and order one from Cabelas for $99 complete, but what fun would that be? Help.[:)]

I built an 1860. Good news is that the action is smoother than the one I bought fully assembled. Bad news is that I will never be able to get the finish or fit to look right. No matter how much I polish it will never look right. I built one of the four barreled pepperboxes & kept taking it apart & redoing it so many times that I finally buggered it up so bad I turned it in at one of the gun buyouts for two hockey tickets. 0 -
Yes, but where can I find these kits?[V]

Try Dixie Guns--that's where I bought my Remington back in the 70's (man, does time fly!!!)

My buddy got some pipe, capped it off and drill a hole in the side. Made a sorry excuse for a stock out of a 2x4. He poured some powder in it, and pushed a ball and patch down it. He was going to use a long fireplace match to light it with. And we dared him. He lit the match but chickened out, haha. I don't know what ever happened to it. It was the funniest looking concauction. I'll have to call him up and see if he's still got it. If he does, I'll take a picture and see if I can post it. 0 -
Dixie has some kits. There is one for the brass frame 1851 Navy, cost $135, which is the same as the finished pistol costs!?
I see a kit for the Remington New Model Army, .44, cost $185, made by Euroarms
There is a Spiller and Burr .36, a rare pistol, good looking with the octagonal barrel, kit is $125. It is a Pietta
Also there is a Rogers and Spencer .44, octagonal barrel looks like a Remington, $265 for the kit, Euroarms
Go ahead and send in for the Dixie catalog, it is a great read.0 -

Hey Allen, I appreciate the leg work. I went over and peeked in my Dads Dixie catalog and found the kits. I had missed them before. I will order one after Christmas. Thanks to everyone who helped with their posts.[:D]
