Magsafe Ammo Effective or Hype

Is Magsafe ammo as effective as claimed for a defense round? I recently ordered a pack of .32 S&W Long Defender from a dealer who just happened to have a pack left in stock. Magsafe no longer makes this round. I ordered them because there is no other decent defensive round available for the .32 S&W Long. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Honestly I don't think it is any more or less effective than any other hollowpoint or non-FMJ bullet out there. Just alot more expensive. I think I saw a book on ballistics at barnes and nobles book store on ballistics, and in it was several chapters on terminal ballistics. Basically from what little bit I skimmed thru, it said that bullet design was much less important than the mental presecption of being shot the person you shot had.

    I think that I would use whatever you could afford to train with. Cause that $2.50 magsafe bullet in the wall next to the perp is going to be allot less effective than that $0.20 FMJ in his body.

    check out the websight, www.magsafe.com, I for one believe firmly in the Glaser rounds and the Magsafe rounds for personal defense. I was forced to defend myself a few years ago and was carrying a S&W 640 loaded with 38 Special Glaser Safety Slugs. I fired one shot and it was an almost instant stop of the attack. The attacker dropped and expired within a few minutes from massive internal bleeding.
    Thats all I carry now, Glasers or Magsafes.

    While tests on gelatin & medium size animals seem to indicate their effectiveness, we have far too few real-life reports such as the one from Chris. While statistics on guns/ammo used by LEOs in shootings are maintained, frangible ammo is used only by civilians, and no one tracks the guns/ammo they use in justified shootings.

    I think that their instant disintegration & lack of ricochets is a good reason for many of us to carry this type of ammo. I have responded to many GSW incidents in which lead bullets penetrated numerous walls & windows, and/or struck objects/people a great distance away.

    Personally, I'm more afraid of killing/injuring an innocent person than I am of what a perp will do to me because my ammo failed to kill him fast enough.
