9MM revolvers
You guys ever owned or shot any 9MM revovers like the S&W 547 , Ruger sp101, S&W 940, Astra or any other in 9MM....reason being 9MM ammo is just so damm cheap lately.....thanks Billy

i own a ruger speed six 3" 9mm m-209. its 25 years old in 99.9% condition. its a pain in the butt to load those 1/3 moon clips. fyi....the history of the 9mm revolver began in the central american island countries with a market contract from ruger and s&w. since 9mm was the common caliber for 3rd world police forces, ruger made available cheap revolvers to replace antique 9mm and 380 cal semis. many police forces today still carry 9mm revolvers. an interest has reappeared in 9mm revolvers, but i for one would never want it for a real weekend shooter. i hate those clips! anyway, this is an example of how guns become collectors and valuable. low demand? high value because of rarity. make more and more? demand goes down, value goes down. hope this helps.

Ruger makes a New Model Blackahwk that is chambered for .357/38 special and it also includes another cylinder for 9mm. I own one and I am very happy with it. 0 -
I had a S&W 940, J frame, 9mm revolver. You could shoot it without moon clips, but then you had to poke the empties out with a pencil. It also had a sharp little kick to it, wasn't fun to shoot. Good self defense revolver though as you get decent velocity from the 2" barrel.

I have to wonder if there were not some issues with +P or +P+ ammo usage in small frame guns. My understanding is that some folks in LE used the metal clips for other things than there intended usage so they got bent up and their superiors probably got bent out of shape in response [:(]
Really would love to them redo some J frame or SP101 in 9mm. Ideal for backup if not fun to shoot.

My choice would be the Smith 547[I've got 3 of 'em]. They do not require clips, and are built on the K frame. They were available in a 4" square butt, and a 3" round butt.Bob

how does an auto cartridge eject without clips out of the s&w?

Instead of a typical star ejector there are 6 spring prongs that expand as the ejector rod is pushed.These engage the rimless case in the groove and eject the cases.Really cool! Don't know why they stopped making them.-Bob

I have an S&W 940 and while it is a nice pistol, I think the standard 640 Centennial (in .357 or .38 Special) J-frame is more useful. The S&W 547 was the best of the breed of 9mm revolvers due the the ingenious ejection system already mentioned.

Hangfire, a possible answer to your question. S&W stopped making the 547 before 9mm really caught on in this country. They discontinued the 547 in 1985, the same year that the Beretta 9mm was chosen by the military. Prior to the mid 1980's there really wasn't that much of a following of the 9mm in the US. They probably weren't selling very many so they discontinued them. 1985 was the year I bought my first S&W 547. 0 -

Taurus has just came out with a five shot revelover in 9mm, same size as the Model 85 in 38 spc. I am unsure the model number, but should be step up from a snubbie in 38Spc in power, but without the roar of the magnum. I bet this gun becomes a hit.

The model designation for the Taurus 9mm small frame revolver is Model 905 and it is available in blued, stainless steel, a blued ultra light version, and as a mattt stainless ultra light. I can imagine that the ejection system on the S&W 541 was simply too expensive to add onto the newer Model 940...although I'd have gladly paid the extra cost! I have to agree with Bobski that the moon clips are a pain to load and unload whether or not they are full, half, or quater.
