Model 12 Win. 16Ga worth?
Looking for an approximate selling price for a Winchester Model 12 in 16 Ga. in good condition with plain barrel and Mod. choke?Thanks in advance for suggestions,Bob.

Good question, you gave some usefull info. It sounds like just the "plain" old field model, so we will go from there. Mod. choke in the smaller guages is the most common, (Full in the 12 ga. is) So the barrel lenght is important, this measured with the action slide al the way forward, and the breech bolt locked into place. from the face of the bolt to the tip of the barrel can be 25,26 or 28 inches depending on the vintage of the gun, the shorter barreled guns bring more money. If it's pre-WWII it will bring more money, s/n inder 900000. In 1927 Winchester chambered all the Md 12s for 2 and 3/4 in shells, this started with serial number 462000 range, prior to that the chamber was 2 9/16s, the short chamber gun isn't worth as much.
So with that said: If you have a pre war, Nickle Steel gun in 2 3/4 in chamber about $450- 600 if it's all original
Pre-war Proof steel barrel, $400-$550
Post war, $400-$500.
These are guestimates based on the condition you said, and from what I've seen here on the auction sites. Being original, stock not cut, is important. Regards Dave0 -
[:D] [:D] You have one of the best old pump shotguns made values have dropped as the old boys who knew what they were/are have passed on... the new generation has gotta have the newest out, and wouldn't be seen in the field with an OlD field worn Winchester.They should be proud to carry it ,kinda like driving a classic car. A few yrs back you would be hard pressed to find one under $400.00 The last few yrs the salesI have been to they have been running between 2 to 3 hundred bucks if its a nickelsteel bbl. you might get a bit higher price.My advice is if it was given to you by your Father or Grandfather keep it. its' a fine shotgun and you will in the future regret parting with it ,if it was handed down. If yourbent on parting with it,in my area $300.00 would be about tops. "It's paid for and ain't eating anything ,so ya don't part with it." that the way i figger it. [:D] [:D] [;)]

The 16 is built on a true "16" guage frame and is almost as light as a 20 guage. In the last few years 16 guages have sold for more than 12's because of their sweet handling. Also the breakdown on guages is something like 60% 12's, 30% 16's, and 10% 20's with a smattering of 28's so the smaller guages are much less common. I don't have my book with me but the figures above should be close enough. I personally have 3 M12 16's including one with an Imp Cyl and 26" barrel and it's really hard tto miss with!!
