Judge Colt may be a lot more help than I am on these guns. The information on these that I have is rather sketchy and incomplete. It appears that gun number 156000 was produced in 1942. After that, I have nothing on the Woodsman Pistol. I guess that is my fault as these are not my interest, although they are very collectible and interesting. Regarding value, well, as I said, my interests are elsewhere in the Colt line so I haven't kept up with the value of these. Your request has given me more than a little consternation......I need to find out more about this area of Colts. Judge Colt should be able to help more.

The year your pistol was produced, and almost any other information you require regarding early Colt .22 pistols will be there. Hopefully it will help come up with a valuation for your pistol.

I'll take a stab at this. I looked at two references (Standard Catalog and Blue Book). Blue book had more serial # info.
The serial number portion you provided is on the hairy edge of the Woodsman 1st series made between 1934-1947 with serial numbers 90,000-187,423.
So, if yours is under 187,423; it would appear from the ser. # that yours may be the "Sport Model"; 4.5" barrel.
100% - $1,295
98% - $995
95% - $650
90% - $550
Add 10% for adj. frnt. sight (avail. beginning 1933)
Add 50% for medium weight barrel (1933-1934 mfg. only), and an additional 50% for semi-circular "half moon" front sight (1933 mfg. only).
It looks like your only added value MAY be the adj. frnt. sight since the other dates pretty much preclude yours since the early dates and your later number.0 -

I collect the Huntsman model and know a bit less about the Woodsman, but The First series Woodsman was made with Walnut grips before WWII. and some plastic was used during the Postwar/Prewar pats cleanup in 1946 and 1947. Starting with the second series in 1947 the grips were Coltswood (to 1950) a bakelite like product with a wood grain color. Second series has a thumb button mag release behind the trigger guard, and it has a small trigger guard. That should help you sort out which model yours is since it is on the cusp. Prices given are about right, though most collectors consider a woodsman in 90% condition a shooter, not a collectable, unless it is an unusual varient.

I forgot to mention that my prices are out of last years Blue Book. Mine is the 23rd edition. The 24th has been out for awhile...sometime after March this year...not sure? So, I am sure the prices are at least the same if not slightly higher perhaps.
