New Scope for my SAR8

I have a Springfield scope coming in the mail. It's the 6X40 job they show on their website. Nothing fancy; just thought it might work. Any suggestions? Is this commonly used on the SAR8? I don't know if it comes with rings- bought it on eBay for about 1/3 of list price. Anyway, I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. Also, I was thinking of buying a laser borescope kit to sight it in. Good idea?

    I have two springfield scopes, one is mounted on a .308win bolt rifle. Though I have heard quite a bit of bad stuff about them, I haven't had any problems with mine. One is pretty new, the other one old. I think I got lucky and missed the bad batch.

    The Springfield is a decent scope, and it seems that there are a few of the 6x's on the market right now (Springfield has been giving them away with the M1A's for a bit). Your biggest issue will be mounting it on the rifle. If you intend to use regular rings, the ARMS #1 mount is a good choice, the best still being the HK factory mount, but then you have to use STANAG rings. Be prepared, either one will eat up $200 in a heartbeat for the mount only. The you have the issue of the stock being too low for a proper cheek weld, so some type of riser is called for. I looked into doing all of this to my SAR8, decided it would be better in the long term just to trade it towards a SR9/MSG90 clone! Try the boards at hkpro, lots of good geeks there.

    One of the biggest issues with putting a scope on a HK91 type rifle is proper eye relief. Where the scope exits the rear ring on mount, if the distance back to your head is to long it won't work with out some type of extension on the stock.

    Best mount for the money is the Arms mount, these run over $200 new, the German HK mount will run over $400 new, Tapco has some clone mounts for around $100.

    What type of stock is on the rifle now.

    The stock is the 'standard' stock Springfield used on their aluminum receiver models. It has the scope rail as part of the receiver. I was hoping to just buy some rings for it and shoot it. Does the front sight get in the way?

    The aluminum receiver model is different altogether, I've never actually seen one. As far as mounting just a matter of the correct height rings. The front sight should not be visible with a 6x scope.
