Colt .25 1908 Vest Pocket

Hi. I've got a Colt .25 (6-digit serial) in about 40-50% condition. It needs a good cleaning, at the least. I can disassemble several types of auto pistol, but can't figure this one out. Also, the barrel seems pretty loose when the slide is back; but, I seem to recall that this is not uncommon. I'd like to clean and test the mousegun, to decide if it's a keeper. Any other interesting things to know about this model? Should I take the fact of about 8 on auction now that they are/aren't desirable to others? Thanks

    At 40 to 50 percent, your not going to have folks standing in line to buy the Colt, UNLESS you got it priced right.

    rufe-snow, thanks. That's a good site to know about. My .25 is the hammerless version, but the barrel, slide, safety look the same. Made an effor to twist the barrel for release (NOW I know what those serrations are for), but no luck. There must be a trick. I tried holding the slide all the way back; and at the stop; and just ahead of the stop.

    Sometimes if they haven't been disassembled and cleaned in a long time there real hard to get apart ( I' ve worked on some of the those small pocket autos that have been filled with pocket lint ).

    Try soaking it good with WD 40, and moving the slide back and forth, ( slowly ) while twisting the barrel till the barrel lines up with the cut-out in the slide.

    Here's some Instructions specific to your Model 1908 from Sam Liskers excellent site. You hopefully will have better luck with with them, then the instructions for the Astra .25 on the Marstar site.

    Thanks, I'm downloading the 1908 sheet from Liskers right now. I did manage to get it apart. For my efforts, I have more respect for the engineering, and tender finger/thumb tips. Turns out the rotation point for the barrel is with the slide back only about 3/8 of an inch.

    i have one in my hands right now. similar in condition grade to yours, but it appears to have been re-nickle plated a long, long time ago, and the right hand grip panel is cracked.its hammerless, (SER#54729)its running on GB for auction right know under seller WALTSGUN.

    i agree that the takedown is a bit unusual, and following instructions ora a diagram helps. best regards, mike.
