muzzle brake vs. flash hider
What is the difference between a muzzle brake and a flash hider??? Thanks again for those who answered my last posts. All information was very helpful.

During the assault weapons debate back in 1993, a congressman, can't for the life of me remember his name, stated that these "assault" weapons have these flash hiders on them "so you can't see where the rounds are coming from". It was the single most stupid statement I heard through the whole debate. That is the kind if ignorance we are dealing with. To answer your question, the flashhider cuts down on the flash that the shooter sees. Usually needed in a low light situation. The muzzle brake helps to reduce recoil and or muzzle flip. John

Muzzle breaks work better, flash hiders look cooler. Neither really effect the functionality of a gun making it an "assault rifle" its just that Janet Reno decided that guns with flash hiders offeneded her. That, and those with black plastic stocks. 0
