Which AK47 to buy?
I need some help from the AK gods out there.
I wanna know what AK is a good one to buy? I saw an Arsenal,INC SLR101 and a Romy WASR both in 7.62x39. The Arsenal's are going for about 490.00 and the Romy about 300.00. Which one would be a better rifle in the field. Are there any other brand out there worth looking at and pricing?

There's a small group of us at work that are interested in getting AK47's but we're not sure which one to buy. We hear the milled receiver & chromed barrel are better than the stamped receiver and plain barrel. Then, there's the ones that will accept double stack mags and ones that won't; and there's a single stock with thumbhole, and two piece stocks with pistol grips. Finally, we have a choice of getting one made in this country by either relocated Europeans or getting kit guns.
Help. We're looking for a good, reliable AK that will fire the 7.62 X 39 round, and will accept virtually any mag made for this type of rifle. Of course, it has to be legal to own and use. Don't care if it can accept a bayonet or grenade launcher. Looking for something that's fun and won't break our wallets but will be reliable at the same time.
Any suggestions?

There were a ton of Romanian AK's being sold that accepted the 20 and 30 round mags. They were selling for around $350. They are a decent AK for the money.

Sometimes the Wood is not the prettiest on the Romanian SAR-1's, but they come with a Chrome Lined Barrel and do a fine job at much less than $350 complete, New, with the capability of using the Hi-Cap Mags. Great Buy for the money...... Do a Search on GB... George Mason out of Idaho is selling some right now. Better get one soon, supplies are dwindling down to nothing....they won't be available much longer! Good Luck!

A Romanian SAR-1 is what I've got, and I think it's a good value for the money. I did briefly have a Russian Izmash Arsenal model which cost about $120 more, and I think it was probably a little better gun, but a customer wanted it more than I did! Not really enough difference that I plan to get another. Primarily a synthetic vs. wood stock and a flash suppressor/compensator. Both have/had stamped receivers, and if you want a milled receiver such as the early Russian or Bulgarian you are talking at least another $200. The single-stack models are pretty inexpensive, and the magazines plentiful, but selecting one of these just depends on how much magazine capacity you want. As for high capacity magazines, the 30 rounders are still plentiful and reasonably priced, the 40's are available but cost a little more. I had both Russian and Romanian mags and couldn't find any significant difference. You probably can't go wrong with the SAR-1. 0 -
don't let them thumbhole stocks shy you away...alot of people that shoot full auto in the shoots in pa. use them on there ak's..they seem to be easier to control...tom 0 -
i have shot several ak's and did alot of reading before i bought mine a couple months ago, check out a bulgarian slr101 before you buy .they have a chrome lined barrel,milled receiver,and they accept high cap mags . i've shot several hundred rounds through mine with no problems at all my opinion and the opinion of my friends who have shot this gun are the same , plus it's a nice looking gun. it is however a little more expensive but i think well worth the extra hundred or two . good luck with witch ever you choose. I have a Romanian SAR1 and have no problems with it. The last few that I seen at gunshows had a laminated wood stock which looked better than my stock. I put a olive green stock on mine and it looks much better. I ordered stock from K-VAR.

I have had my Romanian/stamped/chrome for about 3 years and love it. I've only put a box through it. Payed just under 3 back then. Sure the wood looks like it started out as a 2x6 from Menards, won't shoot with my Colt or Bush AR, but it isn't suppose to. Bacchas, my Bullmastif, can drag it around the back field for a week and it will still shoot! I plan on buying another and rebuilding it with all the aftermarket items available and making that my shooter.
BTW, I still have a JB 33rpm!

while sar's seem to be the popular choice you may also want to check out the global trades ak 47's you can reach them at www.globaltrades.com while these rifles do go around $500.00 average depending on which one you select the workmanship should not be overlooked

There's also the VEPR line of rifles. Strong RPK style receiver but more expensive than the SAR's. 0 -
I too like my Romanian Sar 1. Something to think about, the stamped receiver AKs known as the AKM have a scope rail on the left side of the receiver, which most of the milled receiver variants don't have.
Very helpful if you want to add a red dot.
