Plinking 45cal clones?
Can anyone suggest a "reasonably priced" Colt 1911 clone for plinking? I was looking at surplus "Star"s, Bollista Molinas, Llmas's, but I keep hearing most of them are either junk to start with, or if they are any good you can't get parts for them. I've heard "Rock Island Armory" (or something like that name) products aren't so hot either. Any 9mm built like the 45's are also of interest. I liked the look of the Star BM but was advised parts are hard to come by, and the gun is hard to work on. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The bottom of the line springfield armory goes for about $400.00 That's about as cheap as I would be willing to get on a 1911.

Check out a sistema colt. Southern Ohio Gun has them at about $350.00. Used argentine army pistols made under license from colt. 0 -
Norinco if you can find one at a decent price(around 300-350)IN NICE SHAPE!!

Rock Island Armory isn't bad either, at $350. Fully interchangeable with GI parts, based on the 70 series and is very clean. Worth the time to look them over...

Well, I wouldn't call the Ballester Molina junk. They're a nicely made pistol and would make a fine "plinker".
Southern Ohio Gun has arsenal refinished ones for $250. A nice gun at a nice price: http://www.southernohiogun.com/surplus_hand.html
I agree with Jgreen about the Systema Colt....but they just don't seem to be available anymore.0 -
Springfield has out one call "mil spec" which was about $370 at the gun store last night. Basic parkerised finish, spur hammer, felt pretty good for the money.

I am the proud owner of one each of the Ballester Molina's & Ballester Rigaud's that Century had avail. for $150.00/ea. a year or so ago. They were considered in fair condition (I considerd them in GOOD condition). Great .45 for plinking. 0 -
The springfield Mil-spec is about what your looking for. 0 -

I agree, go with the Springfield Mil-Spec, you won't be sorry.
