Remington year of manufacture 1967 or 1989
I have a Remington 700 chambered in .222 Remington that the 2 digit barrel code is XP. The safety is flat on the front and back and I was wondering if this is an older 700. The coding leads me to believe it was made in December of 1967. It could also mean 1989 but with the different looking safety I think it is the 1967 version. Am I on the right track or do you think this is an aftermarket safety? It looks alot like the current safety.
Thanks for your input.

257izmycal; If you want to know the exact date, email Remington at www.remington.com they have a contact page where you can post questions. I had a similar question posted to them, it took 4 or 5 days to get back to me, but they did give me what I asked for.
Just submit the serial No. of the rifle and let them do the research.

Does the serial no. have a letter prefix? If no prefixthan it would have to be 1967 not 89. 0 -
flat safetey is early production...that year would have had the pressed checkering pattern, where the late 80's would have been cut...if its a bdl another tell tale sign is the floorplates were a mattblue instead of a polished blue on the earlier ones and the bolts werent always jeweled.. 0 -
1967 is the correct year.
Thanks, 257
