Remington 700 SS .270

I'm looking for some information on a Remington Model 700 .270. It is stainless steel with a black Synthetic stock. The clip sayes long action magnum. When I look at Remingtons web site the only stainless steel is a BDL SS. Can you tell me what model this 700 is? Where it sayes MODEL 700 there is some scrolling around the model number. The person who owns this gun sayes that payed $500 for it 3 years ago. The gun is in excelent shape and look like new. What do you think it might be worth.

Can anybody give me a good price it would be woth and what do they run new?

    i would check gunbroker for similar guns and offer 100 less and see what they say

    You are correct, it should be the 700 BDL SS DM. They've been offered in various calibers including both standard and magnum calibers. I'm not familiar with the scrolling around the markings, I don't recall any of mine having that, but maybe I've just overlooked it. For many Remington fans, we prefer the non-locking safety models over the newer ones with it. Without a scope $500 is kinda high, but if it's exactly what you want and it's in good shape, then it's not that bad of a deal either. I agree with stub, you might find the going rate on here.
    One more thing, I have really come to dislike the DM models. It is noisy to reload them (vs. dropping around in from the top), and with 3 rounds in magnum calibers and 4 rounds in standard long action calibers it doesn't really justify it.
    I think the gun runs something around $650 retail new.

    If there is a magazine which says "long action magnum", and the barrel says "270win" you have a gun which is made of parts from several rifles. The scrolling would indicate it being one of the higher priced "embellsihed" versions originaly. However,..if that magazine indicates it is for a magnum caliber,..it is not original. Not that it won't work,..but feeding issues could foreseably arise from the follower being shaped to hold a belted magnum correctly and not a standard long action case. this may mean nothing,..but if I were interested,..I'd call Remington and verify.

    As a side note,..those of us tried and true rem 700 fans have discovered that for ~$15 you can buy a replacement bolt shroud which replaces the one containing the j-lock. This eliminates it all together.This is the lock bambihunter is referring to. It has no bearing on accuracy,..but is ugly!!!!

    why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

    BH,..the 700 lever safety still exists,...it's simply a cosmetic thing with the j-lock. The j-lock is a SECONDARY safety mechanism,..the lever still controls the sear release, and with the lock off,.a safety still exists,..which incidently is the upgraded safety anyway[;)]

    what is being offered you is a standard production 700 ss dm with a mismatched clip...it is not a gun comprised of several guns. i have seen three factory variations to date. A) no scrolling (non-embellished ) B)embellished (the scrolling , which is a later model ) C) embellished with the j-lock on the bolt ( latest, current production ) ...the magazine can be loaded from the top and does not have to be removed to fill it...i find it very practical to carry a spare magazine ready to go for mine and it is less noisy then shells rattleing loosely in my jacket pocket...i have never noticed mine to be noisy enough to the extent of spooking game removing or inserting the magazine...maybe because when removing it there was no game around or when inserting a fresh magazine my ears were ringing from emptying the first at an all ready moving animal ! $500 is a fair price for this rifle considering book value and wholesale cost, however you can find them for less...I bought a non-embellished .280 for $450, and embellished, non-jaylocked 25/06 for $425 and missed an opportunity to buy the 7mm stw ( with muzzle break ) for $400...all basically mint dm models.... I personally like the DM and wish it was offered in the ultra calibers...good luck on your decision 1
