sks 30 round mag installation

I just bought a yugo, took it apart, cleaned it, and then attempted to install my thirty round mag. First off it seems cheaply made. Second, it fit but would not feed. 3rd someone told me I had to remove the bolt that goes through the stock in order to install it. Is that true? Any suggestions?

    throw it in the trash and get a fixed 20 roung mag for it, that duckbill junk never feeds right. Thats my suggestion -Ralph

    Who ever told you to remove the stock bolt is a idiot, so take there advise at your own risk.
    As far as installing a 30 rounder goes, the other poster has given you good advise.
    IMHO the factory 10 round mag is more than big enough (see signature line).
    Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

    I don't have any problem with my
    20 round "duckbill"(now).Is there a little tab
    on the front of the mag that is keeping it from
    throwing the bullet up enough?If so,bend it out
    of the way so that the front end of the cartridge
    will sit up higher in the mag.I had the same
    problem w/my 20 round,but this cured it.

    FYI, if your Yugo was imported after 1994, putting the detachable/hicap mag in is a violation of the AWB because it already has two "evil features"; the bayo and the grenade launcher. Stick with the 10rd'er it came with, they feed 100% of the time. If you put the detachable in. you have to remove the triggergroup, pull out the fixed mag assy and reinstall the triggergroup. The detachable mag can then be installed (with the bolt locked open) by putting the "duckbill" on the mag in first into the little notch where the hinge on the original mag went. Then the back of the mag is "rolled" in much like the method of changing AK mags. The original mag catch should catch on the lock tab on the back of the detachable mag. Unless the bolt is machined to SKS-D/M specs you will have to have the action open to remove/install the mag[:)]

    I wouldn't say the guy that told you to remove the cross bolt is an idiot, but I will say that he doesn't have a clue as to what he;s talking about. There is basically no reason to ever remove that bolt... for cleaning, for mags, for replacing into an aftermarket stock, etc. That bolt should never need to be messed with.

    As for the mag situation, many have found the aftermarket mags to not work well, yet others seem to have no problems. They are really hit and miss. The originals are the best for reliability. If you feel you need more rounds, try the options, but be aware that there are aftermarket ones out there now that look like what has been offered for years, but the steel is thinner and they aren't made by the same people as they used to be. Some of the previous versions were more heavily constructed and had a better track record.
