How do I mount this Marbles Tang sight??
I just purchased a Marbles tang sight for My Henry Golden Boy. If I mount it on the tang using the existing tang screw and then drilling and tapping the front hole, the sight is to low to see the front bead! Should I mount it here and install a higher front bead? Or should I slide the sight further up the tang to accomodate the front site, and drill and tap both holes? They sent me screws for both holes.

Are you telling us that even with the elevation staff turned up, it is still too short to see the front sight[?] I find it really difficult to believe that Marbles would make a tang sight that is designed to mounted with the tang screw, and then that it would not be of sufficient height[?] I do know for a fact that Lyman's tang sights don't have that problem (inside joke [:D]).

If I crank the elevation staff clear up I can see the front sight but it leaves me little adjustment for elevation. As I am using this gun to shoot silhouettes at various ranges I need the ability to click it up or down !
If I mount it in the existing tang screw location, when I look thru it I am looking at the receiver instead of the sight. The only way to see the front sight is raise the adjustment all the way up!!!

How high does the front sight sit[?] If it is a relatively high sight, I would look for a different (shorter) front sight. As little as as an 1/8 of an inch will make a considerable difference.
I just realized, that installing a shorter front sight is not going to help you see over the receiver with the tang sight mounted to the tang screw. How much room do you have to move the sight up the tang before encountering any interference with the hammer? It may be that you will need to drill and tap two new holes to make this work... but it sure doesn't seem like you should have to do that. Have you tried calling Marbles and ask them the question?

Bert: I have plenty of room to move it up! Infact the sight comes with 2 short screws, which leads me to think this is what I have to do! I just want to be sure before I drill and tap it! I have emailed Marbles and am waiting for a reply. I also emailed Henry and they refered me to Marbles!

Thanks for the posting the photos... it looks like you have it figured out, and I agree with TRAP55, measure twice, then drill & tap (I would lower the elevation staff to mid position, tape the sight in place, then lower the elevation staff to near bottom and verify you still have a good sight plane. I still have to wonder why Henry Arms is not making this rifle factory ready for a tang sight[?]

Bert: Thats exactly what I did to find the correct location. I still thought I was wrong because I assumed that it was supposed to mount in the existing tang screw location. I don't know why they didn't design it that way but there must be a reason.

PA, before you drill the holes check the underside of the tang. the receiver on the rifle is 'pot metal' and there is a cast-in re-enforcement on the underside of the tang that will cause your drill to head south if you hit the re-enforcemnet off center (speaking from experience) 0 -

I installed it tonight, everything went fine thanks to your advice,sighted it in and it's shooting fine!!!
