Noticing a differance on Model Numbers.What does the 1,2,3,4 mean when it follows the Model No..

Specifically for the Model 13 the changes are:
13-1 1974, Introduced for N.Y. State Police.
13-2 1977, Change gas ring from yoke to cylinder.
13-3 1982, Eliminate cylinder counter-bore and barrel pin. Reduce cylinder length to 1.62".
13-4 1988, New yoke retention system/radius stud package. Numerous other minor changes occurred in the -4 series.
13-5 1998, New frame design and change to MIM hammer, trigger and internal parts.
Also of note is the fact that in 1972, prior to the introduction of the Model 13, there were several Model 10-6's chambered in .357 Mag for a special order for the N.Y. State Police. These had all features usually associated with the Model 13-1, but were stamped as the Model 10-6.
