New England 12 gauge shotgun

Hi, I'm interested in finding out what this Shotgun is worth for a good friend of mine. A New England, 12 Gauge shotgun, single shot, 3" Modified, Gardner Mass.

    [I was just told that this shotgun has a New Barrel, never been fired. The stock has been refinished, because of too much closet time. The old barrel had only 2 rounds fired thru it, but that barrel is long gone. thank you/quote]

    My local gun shop has them on sale right now for $79.00 plus tax.Good quality for the money spent.

    And for all of the above reasons I quote a standard $35.00 as the value for any utility single in reasonable mechanical condition...

    Tag prices aren't often real-world prices. Since this type of gun is utility in it's purest form, the selling price is most often determined by what value a potential buyer places on moving a load of shot from one place to another.

    If you understand that I'm quoting a wholesale figure, then you'll see how close I really am in the post above where $79.00 moves one out the door. Dealers pay about half what they sell for.

    One other factor that hasn't been mentioned is demand. While one may develop a need for a utility weapon, there will never be a line of lustful buyers waiting to purchase such. Even if tagged for a mere $35.00 such an item could languish for months before being sold.

    Supply and demand... Lot's of widgets, little demand, low values. But put the Winchester name on one of these guns and it becomes a masterpiece. They're among the very few that have made a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Go figure!

    See if a neighbor'd buy it for $65. Thats about what I would sell for. You might start at $75. To be honest, its really not worth selling, its just one of those things that you should just keep, or give away. Don't tell anyone that its been rebarrel or refinished. It really doesn't matter on such low dollar guns anyway.
