BSA 500 made by SKB
This shotgun says BSA 500 on the upper barrel, and under the hand guard it says Japan SKB. it is a 12ga over under with skeet skeet chokes, not tubes. i have not seen a gun like this and im really curios as to what its worth. is it a SKB or a BSA??? anybody know any history on this gun? how old? is it a good gun? its in great shape, almost all original bluing, locks up very tight, and the wood is excellent. it even has the original hard butt plate. ive shot about 1000 rounds through it, and it shoots great, i even took it rabbit hunting, hehe. any help is greatly appreciated. thanx

I'm not familiar with that particular gun, but SKB made quite a few guns for different manufacturers such as Ithaca. In my opinion, they make quality guns for the money.
Now, for the book value and such...
The model 500 was available in 12, 20, 28, or .410 and was made from 1966 to 1979 by SKB to be sold under the BSA name. I'm not finding that they ever sold it in skeet/skeet so there's a small chance that is a rare option (but I can't say for sure so don't get your hopes up). Supposedly they had a problem with the stock cracking where it joins to the reciever.
Here's the values:
For a 100% gun (basically new in the box) it lists at $525
98% $440
95% $395
90% $365
80% $330
70% $300
Add 10-15% if it has engraved receiver with birds and/or dog images. Also, subtract 10% if it doesn't have gold triggers.
From the info on it, I'd say you have a good firm shooter not a collector. Like I said earlier, SKB (IMHO) makes a decent gun for the money.

thanx for the reply. i found that same description in gun value book. but as you said, i have yet to see anything about a skeet skeet model. this is starting to bug me, hehe. oh well, thanx anyway.

That was the book I used to pull some of the info...
Looking at the Gun Trader's Guide, it doesn't specifically state anything about which chokes were offered and lists the start and end date both as a year later.
It also lists excellent condition at $420 and Good at $280.
None of my other books list it at all...0 -
thanx again. you dont see these around very much tho, it locks up so tight you would swear it was never shot. its a ball to shoot, and from what you said and what ive heard from others, it is a very fine shooter. maybe in another 50 years, it will be worth more, hehe. on the other hane, i wont feel so bad about taking it rabbit hunting, i wont own a gun i can shoot, but i was under the impression it was worth between 900-1000usd, so i was kind of leary about taking it hunting, now i dont mind. thanx for all the info, if you find anything else, please keep me posted.
