B-WEST AK PROBLEM?

i was told at my gun show not to fire my ak because there was a heat treat problem in the reciver.is that true and if it is how can it be corrected,the rifle has never been fired.

    gun702, I just posted the solution to your problem on the post titled "AK47". There is a guy on the AK47.net discussion board who, last I hear, will heat treat the B-West receivers for free. He use to work at B-West, is VERY knowledgeable about all sorts of firearms. I sent him my B-West, figured he was nice enough to do this, so included an extra $100.00 (over his "free" price) and he finished the installation of the East German folder, and completely re-blued the entire rifle, including the stock. He seemed to favor doing this sort of thing only for members of the AK47.net discussion board. You might sign up there and post a dozen or so posts real quick so you can tell him you are a member there. Look at the other post on AK47 now running here, do some searches for B-West on AK47.net, get in touch with this guy. Even if the rifle has been shot quite a bit, he can peen the elongated holes and rework all that is needed, then give it the correct heat treatment. He is doing this mainly because he use to work for them, knows their reputation, and wants to make things right.

    Oh, ANOTHER important point. The soft receiver issue only applies if the gun is marked "Made in USA". B-West imported Polytech and Norinco AKs that are true Chicom rifles, and don't have the heat treat problem. They were an imported first, and only started making their own as the ban approached. If it says "Made in USA" you should move to correct the heat treat. If it is a Polytech or Norinco import, it is just fine as it is.

    I think this problem is for the US made B-West receivers, I had one that was a chinese import by B-West, the imports should be just fine. Just check if yours is a US or import.
