Unfired 1947 Win Mdl 70, transition saftey ?

I have a 1947 Winchester Mdl 70 in 270 Winchester. In the Blue Book it refers to a transition safty. How do I tell the pre war reciever and a transition saftey?

  Hey Garson- A pre war M.70 will have a serial number below about 31,600[Don't remember exact #].It will also have a rear clip-charger guide in receiver, and the receiver will only have two holes drilled on the top front of the receiver-none at the rear.
  
  The first safties[transitional] were mounted on the top rear of the bolt sleeve and would swing to the left for safe and to center to fire. For easier operation with a scope it was changed to the right side of bolt sleeve.-Bob

  Most of the 1947 Mod 70s were of the transition variation (ser #s 58383 to 75675). Some of the early 1948 numbers may have been also. Rifles made in 1946 and before are considered pre-war configuration (about 58000 and earlier). There are a few hybrids that have features of both, as winchester used prewar parts on post war rifles. An example is a Prewar safety (as described by Hangfire) on an action without clip slots.Like Hangfire says, If your safety is on in the rear position and swings to the right and fires in the forward position, it is a transition safety if it is a 1947 rifle. Very nice gun by the way.
