.32 S&W Long Defensive round
What is the best defensive round for a .32 S&W Long. I've read that you can shoot .32 Auto in a revolver, which has hollow points. I've tried .32 Auto in Federal 65 grain Hydra Shock and they shoot fine. I've also read that the 98 Grain S&W long wadcutter at 780 fps and 130 lbs. of energy is a good round. Magsafe used to make a .32 S&W long but quit due to lack of interest. My wife prefers this to the .38 special because of recoil.

I have shot 32auto ammo in a 32 revolver, it works but is not very accurate,32S&W long ammo is expensive and hard to find thats why I tried it...actually 32 auto ammo is damm expensive too!!!! Billy

The .32 Auto is a semi-rimmed cartridge. The revolver will even eject the empties. They shoot fine in my revolver.0 -
I use Cor-Bon hollowpoints for defense in my .32ACP. You might try them.

I have a H&R revolver in 32 S&W long that I carry occassionally. Using this gun in a defensive situation may do well as a deterant and is better than nothing but it will not drop a crazed or determined attacker. At 10 yards this round will not penetrate a standard car tire while a 22lr/mag, 38/357/9mm, and 40/45acp will. There are some reasonably priced sources for ammo out there and it is a nice round to shoot but be aware of it's limitations. I reload mine with a Lyman 310 reloading tool, a very simple and cheap wat to go.
Just my 2 cents and experience.
Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

we load a .32 S&W LONG self defense / combat load with a jacketed hollowpoint in the 85-100 grain wieght. its a custom handload made here in the shop on new, empty brass. we charge $25.99 per box of 50 rounds loaded by us on our new brass.
i have used this load personaly, and have 3 or 4 boxes of it in my cabinet. i cannot stress enough that shooting non standard caliber / diameter / headstamped ammo out of these older guns is an accident waiting to happen. i always insist on inspecting, cleaning, and obtaining a second preffesionals opinion on these older pieces before firing them at all, especialy when using modern, defensive spec ammo.

I bought two boxes of Aquila, 98 grain, lead, round nose at a gun show about a month ago for $15.00 (100 rds.) It functioned well an seemed to have more recoil than the Western SuperX that I had been using. It was not as acurate as the Super X. I sure that Aquila has a web sight, so they may show vel./energys there. I believe that the bullet dia. of a 32 auto is about .003 or .004 too small for an S&W Long.
