Mosin-Nagant rifle
I am trying to get information on as well as determine the value of a rifle my son has acquired. Its a Mosin-Nagant rifle, complete with bayonet....has serial # 9139-4852 and Russia stamped on side of chamber along with the number M91730...on top of chamber just in front of bolt is the hammer and sickle, 1943, two symbols i cant describe, followed by 2504 and what looks like a triangle and diamond..and an uncompleted square.....on the barrel shank is what I think is izhevsk crest, izhevsk arrow and triangle, and on the bolt body is the tula star. Any assistance in my quest will be greatly appreciated...Thank you..email replies to texanne44@yahoo.com

Since you don't give the barrel length or note if the bayonet is attached to the rifle. Your sons rifle might be any one of the following Model 1891/30, Model 1938 Carbine or Model 1944 Carbine.
They were produced in the millions, both prior and during W W II.
These rifles are being imported into the U S by the container load.
It seems that all the local general merchandise sporting goods stores are selling them, sometimes for as low as $70. My 2 cents.0 -

Without looking at it, and just going on the street price of one of the millions of Mosin-Nagant rifles on the street right now, you can figure about $59-$79. You will find some idiots on the auction side of GB trying to sell them for as high as $150 (these are the normal rifles and not the orginal sniper rifles). There is little chance that you will get that type of money for one of these right now.
