I just picked up an M1 Garand in great condition, the receiver is marked on the left side C A T Gorgia, VT. The stock is after market, as it has no inspector stamps or other markings on it.
Can anyone give me an idea what this is? Who C A T is? Is value comarible to armoury rebuild?
    Thanks for the help.

Your rifle would have been produced in around September 1944 and the barrel dated November, 1944 should be the original. Your bolt is a post war replacement and is not original to the rifle. There are far too many variables invoved in M1 Garand prices to give you any accurate idea of value based on the extremely limited information you've provided but near identical rifles can be purchased through the CMP program for $500. If the stock, rear sight, operating rod, trigger group, if the barrel is not chromed at the gas port and other major parts are correct than that price could easily double.
