.303 Ammo

Hi, I don't know if this is classified as "Ask the Experts" or not, but I have just aquired a Enfield MK III or MK IV ( I dun remeber off the top of my head >_<) and I am trying to find ammo cheap, like surplus or somthing. I mean I can get 2,800 rounds of Turkish surplus Mauser rounds for $101 and 1000 rounds of brand new Worlf 7.62X54 for $75, but I cant seem to find .303 that cheap. Can anyone help me out??

    The prices on ammo are influenced, in large part, by how much of it is on the market at a given time.
    Right now 7.62x 54R, 7.62x39, .223, 9mm, as well as a few others are in plentiful supply, so the prices are cheap.
    The stocks of .303 british are usually lower as there is not the same demand for it as there is for the other calibers.

    J&G sales in Arizona has S&B .303 British 182gr fmj for $6.95 per 20rd box if you buy at least 5 boxes. Thats $347.50 per 1000, not cheap.

    Yeah, I live in Phoenix and I go there all the time to pick up my ammo. I picked up 2,800 rounds of Turkish surplus Mauser rounds for $110 after tax there. I found Boxer primed rounds 500 for $180. I would like to find surplus ammo I mainly go plinking, I don't go hunting to much.

    Hi, I don't know if they still carry it, but cheaper than dirt used to have 50 round surplus boxes for about 11$. Sounds like I have the same gun you do, I inherited mine. how much did you pay for it?

    When they come to get your GUNS, make sure to give them the AMMO first!!!

    www.sportsmansguide.com has 768 rnds of corrosive pakistani fmj for $116.97. Also www.cheaperthandirt.com has 20 rnds of Rem UMC fmj for 8.97. Keep looking there may be other sources.

    Cool thanks for the site allechalley. Yeah I have been to cheaperthandirt and J&Gs here in AZ is cheaper. I bought mine from my dad's friend for about $200 inculding all the accesories and ammo he had. He needed the cash so he sold all of it to me for that insead of the $350 just for the gun he was originally going to do. The gun is in really great shape, I am going to take it out squash shooting this weekend with a friend.
    P.S.

    Thanks for the Sportsmans Guide website. My friend had that cataloge, but we lost it, and we could never remeber the name of the place. That was the only place that had those rounds cheap. I just went there and it's 768 rounds for 115 or 110 for memebrs

    in the case of the .303, fired from a BRITISH ENFIELD, its a better proposition to buy surplus ammo and toss the cases in the trash than it is to buy nice commercial reloadable ammo and try to reload the brass.

    ENFIELDS while strong, reliable, and accurate often have very sloppy, or irregular chambers. the gun was designed that way to allow it to operate with dirty or fouled chambers and bores without having a stoppage or failure to feed from the magazine. some folks say that the intention was to allow the gun to function with "dirty" ammo, or ammo that did not quite meet military specs.

    i know that my T-type sniper enfield shoots nice 5 round sub 1 inch groups at 100 yds, and is in superb shape. it also destroys brass cases. i often have case seperation, or "ghost rings" in the brass. my reloads never last more than 3 times, and i have about givin up on handloading for this gun.
