Kills at both ends, but they shoot well. A friend has a 760 in 30-06. Weighs more than his son's 700 bolt action, but the recoil is more severe. Of course, if the deer is big enough, you'll never notice how hard it kicks when you pull the trigger. 0 -
Hi,MM--
I've had one since 1954. They're reliable, strong, sufficiently accurate, and when I bought mine they were the most powerful pump gun available (30-06). The only problem I've ever had with the rifle itself was a broken firing pin which I replaced myself. I think the pin was faulty in its heat treatment. No problems with the rifle since then. They do not have the primary extraction capability of a bolt gun so you need to be careful with maximum handloads so as not to induce sticking problems. That being said, when I had some sticky handloads being tried on the range, you could eject the empty by holding the forend and bumping the stock on the ground. Cases popped out; no problem. Not bad over fifty years.
Good luck,

MIKE, THE WAY YOU SHOOT IT DOES'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE.

I have a 742 in '06 and a 7600 in .35 Whelen and I don't hunt with either one.
Why? - Feeding problems with those crappy magazines that Remington makes. They drop down or fall out and won't feed the second shot.
Best one is an after-market 10 rounder.
Worst magazines I've come across.

I took the 7600 in 35 whelen and made it my AK fishing/survival rifle. I cut the bbl to 18 in, put on a High-Tech brake, electroless nickel all of it, Ramline stock and foreend, meprolite night sites, quick release scope mounts witha Luepold 1.5 X 5 scope. It shoots 1.5 to 2 inches with 250 gr Swift-A-Frames (moly coated) at 2600+ fps. This is good bear meds and will take 'meat' at 300+ yds.
I have owned several of the 760 and the only problem I ever had was when a bbl came loose on one of them.
Hope this helps.[:)]

I have a 760 30-06 that belonged to my grandfather,he gave it to me when he got to the point that he couldn't hunt any longer.recoil is terrible, but it shoots good.I have litterally worn the finish off the wood,my winter project is to refinish it and check into getting some trigger work done on it, if it's possible. 0
