    Your post puzzles me?

When I was loading for .45 , a load with a M. V. of 925 fps with a bullet of 185 to 200 grains would be considered a hot load.

Normal M. V. for light target loads with those bullet weights would be between 750 & 850 fps.

I use to use between 3.5 & 3.8 grains of Bullseye in my loads. If you use anything less then 3.8 grains, you have to go to a lighter recoil spring. Try a Wolff 14 pounder, if that doesn't work go to a 12.

I would recommend that you work back from about 4.5 grains of Bullseye with your current 1911 setup before changing the recoil spring. I think there is a decided diminished return from cutting the charge too much and some guns just don't cycle all that well despite a spring change. I'd reserve real light loads for shooting in a S&W 625 where cycling wouldn't be an issue.

My load is close to Chris's. I use a Dillon 200gr LSWC over 4.9gr of WW231. I use WW primers also. I use both Rem and Fed shell casings.
I stepped up from the lighter load because I got better accuracy in my gun and it cycled better. It also seems to burn cleaner.

Don't be afraid to experiment. I must have loaded hundreds of different combos before I found this one.

    Good luck Smoky

Thanks all for your input and response.

    Rufe-snow:
My reloads must maintain a minimum 165,000 power floor (bullet weight x Vel.) Judging by some data I have from Vihtavuori,
5.7 grs. of N320 under a 185 TMJ-SWC would produce 929 fps velocity. This data would calculate out to a 171,865 power floor. I guess I'm looking for that somewhat light load but to maintain at least
165,000 PF but will not hamper the gun operation. Thanks.....

SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE SHOOTING IN IDPA COMPETITION. TRY 230 gr RAINIER BULLETS WITH 4.0 gr OF HODGDON CLAYS. THAT IS WHAT I USE FOR MY CDP WEAPON IN IDPA. LIGHT RECOIL AND NO MUZZLE FLASH.

I HAVE PUT THESE THROUGH MY CRONO AND IT GAVE 168000 AND CHANGE. I SHOT THESE IN THE NATIONALS AND RESULTS WERE VERY GOOD AND THEY PASSED THEIR TEST ALSO. THIS IS WHAT I LOAD ALL OF MY CDP LOADS WITH.
