California Penal Code, Section 12520. "Any person, firm, or corporation who within this state possesses a silencer is guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison or by a fine not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or by both."

    Does that answer your question?

Silencers are the most heavily restricted type of "firearm" in California and EOD's section of the Penal Code pretty well covers this issue...without an editorial! Under current DOJ regulations only law enforcement agencies (not individual officers) may possess silencers and even those dealers who are authiorized to sell assault weapons and machineguns here in this state may not deal in silencers. The regulations do however have one extremely narrow exception for Class 2 firearms manufacturers; they may possess silencers for the purpose of repair, but only those silencers owned by law enforcement agencies in this state. I deal in just about everything that can shoot in this state but I can't handle silencrs due to the heavy restrictions.
