Baretta mod. 92 FS
I'd like some opions on a Baretta mod. 92FS 9mm auto. A friend of mine is sell it, it was he son's that passed away. It looks real good, but the barrel is rusty, the bore after cleaning looks good. He's asking $200.00. This is the only info. I can think of now, I haven't seen it in around 2 mos. as I remember it looks pretty good except the barrel. Should I steel wool it down, or would reblueing it be better, if I get it, that is?
Please give me some history on this, and is $200.00 a fair, good ,or excellent price? Thanks, KP

I own and carry a Beretta 92FS in 9mm. The weapon is a very good weapon and if you can get it for $200 it would most likely be a good buy even with some rust on the barrel. Suggest that if you can, try the weapon at the range before buying it with some FMJ ammo. Check the magazines to see what condition they are in,do the magazines lock open the slide on the last round, do they jam or improper feeding? Look over the sights to see if the are not bent, missing or broken. If the barrel isn't totally rust, I would try removeing the surface rust with some very fine steel wool and kerosene or cutting oil. You can also buy aftermarket barrels to replace them or better yet, have a good gunsmith check it out and clean it up.

Sounds like a deal to me, I have a 92F with thousands of rounds through it. Like Moose56 said take it to the range and check it out. Even if you would have to replace the barrel it would still be a good deal. 0 -

This pistol is a very good pistol; however in my line of work (Marine Corps) it is a little on the small caliber in my opinion. Yes they work great. But when it takes 3 rounds to the chest to put someone on their back it is a bit of a waste. I prefer the 1911a1 in the .45. 1 Shot 1 kill.(and they are on their back no matter where they were hit) If he is selling it for $200 with that little bit of rust it will sell easily. If he wanted to keep it he could get a new barrel cheaper then reblueing it.

HMMMMM.... I wonder why the United States Marine Corps is looking to replace their side arm????(Baretta model 92fs) Could it be that they misfunction??? Nope. Could it be that it is too much for the "butter bars'" to handle?? Nope. Could it be that the enemy is still shooting back after being shot one time and not going down?? YES it is. There were 4 known deaths as result of the enemy being shot one time with this pistol at close range and not even flinching. The Marine's who shot them were killed by a rifle that the enemy still had in his hand and was able to shoot back. I agree with you chris8161 there is no guarantee with any gun. (maybe 50bmg and 12gauge might be a little different but we are talking pistols) I have yet to hear from any report that a 45acp did not knock the enemy down. Why does the Marine Corps not use this round? In one word: NATO. I have only one more question. Where in any portion of your reply did you even attempt to help this guy out? Thats right none. Please do us all a favor. Come back from fantasy land.
