    Hunter could be right, i'm going by winchester DOM site, dont be afraid to post entire serial no. if you want to be precise

    According to my findings the serial # 2840000 indicates it was manufactured in 1964. All post 64 models began with the serial # 2,700,000. You can go to the websight www.oldguns.net and scroll down the page and look on the left hand side. There you will find a few gun manufacture names. You can find out the age of your gun by typing in the serial #.

    Hello Larry...

    The serial number information on the website you mentioned is terribly inaccurate for most of the Winchester models... be very careful about using it to determine actual D.O.M.s. The single best source (accurate) is the Cody Firearms Museum.
