Jay,,,,, 2 to 3 thousand sounds a little high. I would est probably 1,000 to 1,500.

I have a 1936 Mauser Luger with all matching numbers, however the bore on mine has pitting, but looks almost as good as yours externally. I payed $550.00 for it at an auction, and it came without a magazine.

If your mag is original to the period, it alone is worth $100.00+.

Looks like a standard P08. There is a lot of wear to the side plate. Does the number on the side plate match the rest of the serial numbers on the pistol? It looks like there is still some straw color on the trigger, does the ejector also still have some of the straw color? Is the magazine numbered to the rest of the pistol and is the bottom of the magazine wood or metal? What is the condition of the bore? Are there any letters on the fore strap (police rework)? As to value, from what I can see, I would say $550-$850 U.S.
Hope that this is of some help.

To answer some of your questions:

    1) The serial numbers on different parts match.
    2) The ejector still has some straw color
    3) The bottom of the mag is wood...no numbers on it.
    4) The bore appears to be in good condition.
    5) There are no letters on the fore strap. As such, I don't believe it to be a police rework.

As to the wear, the pic doesn't really do it justice.

Thanx for the information so far guys...

Apparently they must have made a slew of military 1916's.
In 1971 the "book" value of one dated 1916 was around $60,- lower than ALL THE REST. Seems like the artillary model was valued at $2500 then.
This prompted me to swap my 1916 with all matching numbers for two 1911's, which were selling for $50 at the time.
