How Can I Be Sure??

Hi Guys - Your response to my first ? was very helpful(thanks). BUT, How can I be sure that I have located the correct guns, that I own, in regards to their value??? I have searched Winchester Model 52. The pix I have found - are NOT like mine!! Like I previously wrote, I have the "thumb hole" style. I went on winchester's web-site. but that was no help. I have many handguns, rifles and accessories left from my dad, that I WANT TO BE SURE I have found heir true values!! Does anyone know::::::Is their a web-site or book or reference location, that I can go to with
1)The Manufacturer 2)The Model & 3)The Serial Number to assure I have found the correct info?? Thank You For Helping Me Out!! Enjoy The Day!!

    Your best bet on-line is the "Blue Book".

    They have a on-line subscription sevice, i.e. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. It replicates the stuff thats in the published B B.

    queenroadster, It might be worth your investing in a copy of The Winchester Model 52 by Herbert G. Houze. Pictured in that book on page is a Model 52 Type D International Match. It has a thumbhole stock and ball type palm rest. I am sure it is an original stock as it is from an Olin Corp. Photograph. Also pictured in the book is a reproduction of a brochure produced by Winchester in 1972. Pictured on the brochure is a Model 52 International Match Rifle that has a different aluminum hook buttplate and a palm rest that is made with a horseshoe shaped aluminum piece with a wooden palmrest. You are wise to take your time in identifying what you have. The internet gun forums are referred to by some as the "mother of misinformation." I have found that to often be the case. If you can get in contact with some of your father's shooting friends you might get some good advice from them.

    Thank You - Thank You - Thank You Hershel, you got it! You described my gun to a "T". It does have the aluminun hook butt plate and the horseshoe aluminum with wood palm rest. I will check out the Blue Book!! Thank Again Everyone!!!!

    I doubt the on-line Blue Book will help you. It lists 13 different model 52s and several sub-catagories, no pictures.

    The 2003 Standard Catalog of Firearms lists a Model 52 International Match:

    "Model 52 International Match, a free-style stock with thumb hole and adjustable buttstock and forend introduced in 1969. International Prone model with no thumb hole or adjustable buttplate and forend was introduced in 1975. Both discontinued in 1980."

    The 23rd Edition of the Blue Book:

    "Model 52-D International Match - similar to 52-D, with free rifle stock, accessory rail. Mfg. 1969-1975"

    "Previous Model 52s had ser.no. suffixes - either A, B, C, or D. After approx. 1975, rifles started appearing with an E serial prefix. Both Model 52 International and Prone could have factory stocks that were not Winchester mfg."
