Ruger Serial Numbers

Hello. I was just wondering if any one could tell me why on some products for ruger pistols it says for serial 304-70000 and above? Im just wondering if this is a ban issue, or if there is a difference in the guns. Thank you

    I just looked up the serial number of a Ruger SP-101 I have. The Ruger webb site shows the serial numbers start after my number. Their`s start with a 572 prefix and number 28000. Mine is in the 26,000`s series and not close to 28,000. Any one have any ideas? Just curious. Thanks[:)][:)]

    Check it again, the way I read it your's was produced in 1989.

    I guess I am missing something somewhere. I looked again and the 572 series numbers start with 28006. That is what mine has, a 572 prefix and then serial number 26xxx. Otherwise my serial number is 572-26xxx.?????

    OK I see your problem: Check this, looks like a phone call is the answer:
    The above chart shows the approximate first serial number shipped for the indicated year. This number should be used as a point of reference only. It is not necessarily the very first serial number shipped, but it can be used to determine the approximate year your Ruger firearm was shipped.

    Sturm, Ruger does not produce firearms in serial number order. There are occasions when blocks of serial numbers have been manufactured out of sequence, sometimes years later. Also, within a model family the same serial number prefix may be used to produce a variety of different models, all in the same block of serial numbers. And in some cases, models may be stored for a length of time before they are shipped.

    For exact information on your specific serial number, you can contact Ruger's Records Department either by telephone or mail.
