who built this thing???

I am trying to I.D. a semiauto 12ga that needs repair. It's marked "Universal Firearms Corp. Hialeah Florida -6 Brescia Italy" Mod-M.2071
The only thing I've been able to find out thus far is that these were imported between 1970 & 1974. Can anyone give me any info on who the manufacturer was, or at least leads on finding this out??

    My 2 cents, you have a better chance of identifying the manufacturer of the shotgun, by posting a picture or a link to the picture.

    Brescia Italy has been the center of the Italian arms trade for years. Multiple manufactures have had there production facilities and/or headquarters there.

    If the above isn't feasible, post to the forum on this board. These guys specialize in shotguns.

    I'd suggest that you contact Iver Johnson, Inc. in Jacksonville, Arkansas....They Should have all the records from when They bought Universal in Hialeah, Florida...

    iver johnson arms/amac (last official name of the company) completely shut it's doors and auctioned of machinery and parts (what was left of them) in the last half of 1993.

    the universal line they had purchased in 1986 was just the carbines (completed and work in progress). iver johnson only offered the universal carbines in the 1986/87 catalog. after 1988/89 iver johnson financial problems got the better of them and they stopped new manufacture and only built from parts on hand, some carbines and a few semi-automatic pistols (380 and 22). creditor's and i.r.s forced the 1993 sale of assets.

    almost forget universal's imported shotguns were all discontinued in 1982. and i believe their semiauto shotgun called the 'auto-wing' was only imported 1970-1974. it is hard to tell who manufactured it from the one picture i found of it.

    Thanks to all who have replied so far. I should have mentioned in my original post that I had already posted to Shotgunworld and others already.[B)][:I] Upside, to me, is y'all are the only ones I've heard from.[:)]

    The Model 2071 was one of three models (2070,2071,2072) known as the "Auto-Wing" automatic shotguns and each were idetical except for the barrel lengths which were 26" for the 2070, 28" for the 2071, and 30" for the 2072 and were available in improved cylinder, modified, or full choke atthe suggested retail price of $159.95 when they were imported 30 years ago. I was always lead to believe that these semi automatics were produced for Universal by the Italian firm BREDA, although I have no hard evidence to back up this information. Finding parts could well be a struggle but since you don't mention what the problem is with you own shotgun this could mean anything from a minor functioning glitch to a failure of catastrophic proportions.
