yugo mauser rebarrel?

A while back I picked up a yugo mauser in 8mm for a truck gun. Good shape, but not really a piece of history like a K98. Took it out and the caseings would stick, had to send the cleaning rod down the BBL about 3x to knock the case out. Took it back, dealer is friend of mine, to check it out. Stopped in today and he says he buffed the chamber with steel wool and cutting oil, and pretty much took care of it, but said he hated for me to use it now, just doesn't think it'll be 100% reliable, still sticks sometimes. He says reBBl it or he will 1- refund my $ or 2- put it on the books as credit for my next purchase whenever.
Long story but, I thought the yugo small rings were not recommended to change over to high power cartridge. If I reBBl it, I'd love to switch it to 6.5x55, and an old brownells catalog I have (#52) says this is fine for sm rings, but doesn't mention yugos specifically.
What would you guys do? Is the sm ring yugo a decent action for an unplanned project gun, or should I just drop it and pick up something else?

    I remember its stamped blah blah 44 on the receiver by the bolt, the rifle is at the shop, if more info is needed I'll have to go there tomorrow.

    I think the yugo 48 mauser is a large ring action but is a little shorter than a standard m98.

    the yugo's are all large ring actions, ok for anything in the 243/.308/ class, the ww11 rebuilds are standard lenght (and ok for .30/06 lenght cart.). while the m-48/48 a's are shorter lenght. the m-48 & a's are a little harder to rebarrel as they have an extractor cut.
